I must confess, I’m a die-hard yaoi/BL fan, so when I discovered “Thousand Autumns,” a danmei donghua based on a BL novel called Qian Qiu, I was immediately hooked. The intricate plot, coupled with the captivating characters and stunning visuals, drew me in from the very first episode.
The story revolves around Shen Qiao, a benevolent disciple who falls victim to a sinister plan devised by the ruthless Yan Wushi. As Shen Qiao navigates a world filled with betrayal and deception, his unwavering belief in goodness is put to the test. The contrast between his kind nature and Yan Wushi’s cunning schemes creates a compelling dynamic that keeps viewers engaged.
One of the highlights of the series is the undeniable chemistry between Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi. Their polar opposite personalities and complex relationship make for a captivating watch. The series skillfully explores their evolving connection, filled with moments of tension, tenderness, and undeniable attraction.
While the animation may not be the most visually stunning, it’s still enjoyable and complements the overall storytelling. The music is also well-composed, adding depth and emotion to the scenes.
Although some may find the pacing a bit rushed compared to the novel, I personally didn’t mind. The anime adaptation successfully captures the essence of the story and provides a satisfying viewing experience. While there are certain flaws, they don’t detract from the overall enjoyment of the series.
If you’re a fan of BL or simply enjoy well-crafted storytelling, “Thousand Autumns” is a must-watch. It’s a captivating tale of love, betrayal, and the complexities of human nature. I’m eagerly anticipating the release of the second season and hope it continues to deliver the same level of excitement and satisfaction.
