Hey guys, it is another time to discuss Chinese BL donghua and this time, we have a rather interesting and somewhat debatable topic and that is about the best Uke (Shou) in some of our favorite danmei animations.
When we speak about the uke, or shou (Chinese), it typically means the passive one, the not dominant or aggressive in nature, and Chinese BL donghua, also sometimes often refer to positions in a relationship. While technically, terminologies like this are often disregarded, some fans simply enjoy having these tags on some characters as it helps tells the POV of the story from a different perspective.
Best Uke (Shou) in Chinese BL Donghua
Hence, in this post, we are delighted to share some of the best or what we thought to be undeniably amazing uke that we can ever have from danmei donghua.
Xie Lian
The royal prince of Xianle, Xie Lian is topping our list for so many obvious reasons. He just so perfectly fits our definition of a devoted uke-material. While he can be naive at times, Xie Lian displays such a heartwarming vibe that makes you think, he can be the perfect shou (wife) out there.
Kong Hongjun
Next is our young half-demon half-human from the Legend of Exorcism. He is young and bold, Hongjun is a furball of sunshine in his group, which often gives mixed signals to the chief, Li Jinglong.
With his youth and ignorance of the human world, Hongjun can be a bit handy to handle and that makes him even more of a cinnamon roll for us to protect, isn’t it? In all but a few Chinese BL animations that we had so far, we only have a few characters to choose from for our best uke, and Hongjun is undeniably one of them.
Shen Qingqiu
Handsome and overly shady, our shizun occupies a spot in our list of the top 5 best ukes in Chinese BL donghua. With an imposing seme (gong) MC, Shen Qingqiu simply resembles a desperate wife who wishes nothing but to survive, and he’ll do anything to do that, even at the expense of his pride bending over to our MC.
Chen Xing
Innocent and delicate, that’s how I can describe Cheng Xing from the prequel of the Legend of Exorcism, Epic of Divinity Light. Just like Hongjun, Chen Xing has the innocence of a child, but the heart of a brave soul with a burning desire to fulfill his mission.
Wei Wuxian
Occupying the last spot is no other than the Yiling Patriarch Wei Wuxian himself who belongs to no other than the cold yet warmhearted Lan Wangji. Wei Wuxian’s existence is the driving force of the story of The Founder of Diabolism and he alone is so powerful but still passive and can’t do anything if Lan Wangji comes rushing down on him.
That is so far for our top uke in Chinese BL donghua, though there are other names worth mentioning too such as Shen Qiao from Thousand Autumns who I think may also deserve to be included in the list. Meanwhile, it is no doubt that the trinity from Mo Xiang Tong Xia’s novels deserves to be included in this list by any means.
